Winter Winter is a majestic time of the year. The trees are like sleeping giants weighted down with snow and ice. They await the warm rays of the sun to free them from their heavy load. As we look out over the land on a moonlit night, the clouds move slowly across the sky casting shadows over the glistening snow, sparkling like diamonds. Winter is a time to relax at home and reflect on the good times spent with your loved ones. It’s a time to dream and make plans for the future. Winter is a burden for some, but for me it’s a time to slow down and enjoy the beauty of it all.

Download or read book Cherished Memories written by Beverly Jacques Anderson, PhD and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2011-05-06 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CHERISHED MEMORIES takes a memorable journey back to New Orleans of the 1950s. Professor Beverly Jacques Anderson shares stories from her childhood and from her elementary school classmates, providing a fascinating look at the experience of growing up in the Creole culture of the Seventh Ward of New Orleans. This culture indelibly shaped the character, personality, and aspirations of Anderson and her elementary school classmates, many of whom became hard working, family-oriented, service–oriented, productive, self-assured citizens. Creole culture in the Seventh Ward was rooted in close family ties, hard work, creativity, high expectations, independence, the Golden Rule, Catholicism, shared language/manner of speaking, and a shared sense of belonging to a unique community. Teachers, parents, and principals—all African Americans—valued education and set high standards for student achievement. According to interviews with twelve of the author’s classmates, these beliefs, along with the unwavering support of parents and teachers, helped to produce competitive individuals in all walks of life. The Creole culture was also rooted in racial, ethnic, and religious segregation that affected individuals in surprising ways. Anderson also examines the history of public and Catholic education for children of color in the Seventh Ward of New Orleans and addresses the impact of the school on the community and vice versa. Explore this fascinating community and its educational history with Cherished Memories.

Book excerpt: Everyone of us all have stories to be told. We all can write about our own individual love, happiness, emotional, physical pain, sorrow that we all experienced in our lifetime. All of my writings in my biography are based on my own personal experiences, observations that I had in my own personal lifetime. My personal biography is a road path of my personal life which will help others to gain some insight into the choices that I made as a individual that I am as a person along the way of my unique lifetime. Everyone's life is different and unique. There is no one person who basically leads the same life as far as experiences, unpredictable happenings, are concern. This is why everyone's life is unique, and interesting to read about. In my biography, I am the subject, I express my views on things, my version of events that took place in my lifetime. By confronting my own unique painful memories as well as happy and exciting ones, and by writing my own biography makes me feel better as a person, and to be able to share my good, and bad experiences with my readers. Also, the story of my personal life is so important to those who love and respect me. By relating my memories and insights will long be valued and treasured by all my beloved family members. The true gift of my personal biography will be complete only when I had shared my unique biography with family members, and readers, near and far.

Download or read book Embracing Life Again After the Death of a Spouse written by Dr Anniekie Ravhudzulo and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-01-12 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When someone we love dies, our whole world is knocked off balance. One of the most common and yet difficult feelings you experience is isolation. It seems no one understands what you are going through. And many of us are so busy, you dont take the time to fully grieve and, therefore, heal from your losses. It is very true that people who are grieving often feel extremely tired because the process of grieving usually requires physical and emotional energy. The grief you are feeling is not just for the person who died, but also for the unfulfilled wishes and plans for the relationship with the person. Death often reminds most of the people of past losses or separations. Remember, there are a number of conditions that can make it harder for you as a person to successfully make it through the grief process. For example, sudden losses are harder to deal with than ones that have been anticipated. With anticipated losses, the knowledge that a loss will occur allows people to prepare, both by feeling grief before the fact of the loss and also by planning ways to minimize the negative impact of the loss when it does occur. The loss of a spouse, lover, child, parent, or best friend is usually more deeply felt than the loss of more distant relations and friends. This is because such central relationships have long and deeply felt histories and an intensity of attachment that does not occur with more distant relationships. Central relationships are more deeply and significantly knitted into the grieving persons sense of self, and thus leave a bigger hole in the grieving persons sense of self when they are lost. I discovered that when things are going badly, whether in the family or work environment, most of us strive mightily to improve our situations. But what if the way to overcome a series of losses and failures is just to sink into them? We all go through trials and tribulations. Everyone has difficult situations in their life. It is the way we look at them, and the way we handle those situations. I believe it is the struggle we must endure to gain the strength needed to break through the barriers. With every victory comes the strength we need to overcome the obstacles and move forward. Most people today give up easily because of what you may call emotional downturn. This book in your hand has been written and carefully thought out with you in mind. It has been written to bring you out of your sociological pit and emotional defeat. I therefore gladly recommend this book to your reading that you may be built in His grace. I believe that God will never give you more than you can handle. You often wonder how some people cope with their situations in life, I often hear people saying, IdontthinkIcoulddealwiththat but we dont know what strength lies within us, until the time comes to face the challenge. The harder the struggle, the sweeter the victoryNo test, no rewards.
