Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I thank God (Allah) for giving me well-being and the courage to complete this seven-chapter book. And it has also fulfilled my long-time desire, which is always to share my opinion with different people in different communities. However, human beings are not complete creatures, neither perfect, I am not an exception. You might disagree with some of my opinions, which is very much understandable, because no two people will always agree on the same thing all the time. However, I recommend you and every single reader of this and other books to carefully read every single subject, topic very well, before making any conclusion to agree or disagree. Majority of topics and subjects in this book are based on own personal experience and research. And no part of this book is a copy from any other text. However, I get some of my evidence and reference from the holy Quran and the tradition of Prophet Muhammad. You might read a book with an open mind, but the real-life events that took place and I highlighted some of them are always better to act on something you learn before it could happen to you or you might experience it before and you don’t want it to happen to you again. I recommend for every reader to follow the best examples which I highlighted, majority of which will surely help you. Finally, if I said something that offended you, that is not my intention; my real and true intention is to help people in different level of society in regards to issues facing them. And sometimes it is almost impossible to make your point without using a reference and example that might sound offensive to someone; however, that is not the intention of most authors to offend the readers. I wish may God (Allah) make it easy for us to accept the truth and follow the right part to him. May Allah keep peace and his blessing hand on the soul of my mother and father who passed away, with the rest of Islamic community who passed away too. May Allah increase his peace and tranquillity on the legacy of Prophet Muhammad, his followers, and the rest of Islamic community and individuals. I end with the name of Allah, the most gracious, the most merciful.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why should we study language? How do the ways in which we communicate define our identities? And how is this all changing in the digital world? Since 1993, many have turned to Language, Culture, and Society for answers to questions like those above because of its comprehensive coverage of all critical aspects of linguistic anthropology. This seventh edition carries on the legacy while addressing some of the newer pressing and exciting challenges of the 21st century, such as issues of language and power, language ideology, and linguistic diasporas. Chapters on gender, race, and class also examine how language helps create-and is created by-identity. New to this edition are enhanced and updated pedagogical features, such as learning objectives, updated resources for continued learning, and the inclusion of a glossary. There is also an expanded discussion of communication online and of social media outlets and how that universe is changing how we interact. The discussion on race and ethnicity has also been expanded to include Latin- and Asian-American English vernacular.

Download or read book Family Self and Society written by Philip A. Cowan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-05-22 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Any agenda for family research in the 1990s must take seriously a contextual approach to the study of family relationships. The editors and contributors to this volume believe that the richness in family studies over the next decade will come from considering the diversity of family forms -- different ethnic groups and cultures, different stages of family life, as well as different historical cohorts. Their goal is to make more explicit how we think about families in order to study them and understand them. To illustrate the need for diversity in family studies, examples are presented from new and old families, majority and minority families, American and Japanese families, and intact and divorcing families. This variety is intended to push the limits of current thinking, not only for researchers but also for all who are struggling to live with and work with families in a time when family life is valued but fragmented and relatively unsupported by society's institutions. Students and researchers interested in family development from the viewpoint of any of the social sciences will find this book of value.

This book was released on 1995-01-01 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years the peasant household has become a central focal point of social history. This is true not only because the peasant represents the major element of European society through the nineteenth century, but also because many of the main issues in modern historical debate can be studied within the sphere of the peasant family. This book deals with the European peasant family during the period of transformation from agrarian to industrial society, the time called by some the period of protoindustrialization. The essays in this volume explore some of the major issues concerning the influence of the economy, society and institutions on the peasant household and, conversely, the influence of the peasant household on the outside world. Themes dealt with include the ways in which the physical environment and the economy may make for very different family structures and even affect intra-family relationships; the effects of inheritance, marriage and kinship strategies, as well as social pressure, on peasant family structure and demography; the debate about changing gender roles and status; the debate over the manner and effects of class formation; questions of social and political agency; the nature of gender and parent-child relations; the validity of protoindustrial theory; and the role of peasants in initiating industrialization as consumers, producers and as a labor force. In examining these themes, the essays provide both case studies and innovative analysis by preeminent international scholars in the fields of family and women’s history, economic history and demography.

Download or read book Delinquency and Juvenile Justice in American Society written by Randall G. Shelden and published by Waveland Press. This book was released on 2011-08-08 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extensively revised, the second edition blends theory, research, and applications into a superb overview of the complex issues surrounding juvenile delinquency and societys attempts to address juvenile crime. After providing an excellent historical foundation, Shelden presents the theories essential to understanding crime and delinquency. He then explores the system and its effects on juveniles and society, including comprehensive coverage of female delinquency. The social, legal, and political influences on how the public perceives juveniles and the inequality in U.S. society that affects families, communities, and schools are highlighted throughout the book. The concluding chapter looks at solutions that have worked and identifies trends in treating juvenile delinquency. The authors almost four decades of teaching about and researching juveniles and the system make him eminently qualified to offer readers the tools necessary to think critically about delinquency and to evaluate the policies enacted to manage the juveniles who violate the laws. Delinquency and Juvenile Justice in American Society, 2/E provides affordable, up-to-date, easily accessible, and thorough analysis of a significant topic.
