Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Freedom Within a Framework: Hearing the Voice of the Customer on the Factory Floor (978-0-367-08577-3, K406714) Shelving Guide: Business and Management/Customer Satisfaction/Quality This book shows you how to harmonize three business functions to address customer needs by using a novel approach that combines Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) and Continuous Improvement tools. The DFSS tool used is the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) process, which is also known as the House of Quality (HOQ). Although these are techniques reserved for the design of new products, the book illustrates how the HOQ helps translate exactly what customers specifically find important about your products. In addition, if customers are experiencing issues with that product, it helps map those issues and prioritizes the Critical to Quality (CTQ) parameters. Because the HOQs tie the Voice of the Customer to CTQs, it continues to connect to the product design and ends with manufacturing process variables. This linkage makes this idea and approach unique. Stopping there may show that there is linkage between the customer and manufacturing process variables, but moving ahead, we must also connect the functions within the business that provides the product. The book helps define the key business function as three large business functions that must work as one cohesive and unified team. These functions are: commercial (sales and marketing), R&D (product properties and services), and operations (product quality). Connecting these functions involves many colleagues, and a very effective communication process among the three is vital for the success of the product and customer satisfaction. Understanding the voice of the customer is paramount—not doing so could lead to product performance issues and loss of market share. In addition, repeated customer dissatisfaction permeates internal workplace culture—employees begin to feel that they are producing products disconnected from end users’ needs and wants.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although rigidity has been studied since the time of Lagrange (1788) and Maxwell (1864), it is only in the last twenty-five years that it has begun to find applications in the basic sciences. The modern era starts with Laman (1970), who made the subject rigorous in two dimensions, followed by the development of computer algorithms that can test over a million sites in seconds and find the rigid regions, and the associated pivots, leading to many applications. This workshop was organized to bring together leading researchers studying the underlying theory, and to explore the various areas of science where applications of these ideas are being implemented.

This book was released on 2020-05-05 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates ‘capitalism and freedom’—the guiding forces of many political systems—in African philosophy. It builds on classical and neoliberal capitalism rooted in private property and freedom, and argues for the presence of these elements in the traditional and modern African political systems. The author argues that while these elements are partly imported from Western capitalists, they are equally traceable in African traditional political systems. Kayange argues that African politics is marred by a conflict between embracing capitalism and freedom (individualism), on the one hand, and socialism founded on African communitarianism and communist ideas, on the other. This conflict has affected policy development and implementation, and has significantly contributed towards the socio-economic and ethical crises that are recurrent in most of the African countries.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Philosophy, Crime, and Criminology represents the first systematic attempt to unpack the philosophical foundations of crime in Western culture. Utilizing the insights of ontology, epistemology, aesthetics, and ethics, contributors demonstrate how the reality of crime is informed by a number of implicit assumptions about the human condition and unstated values about civil society. Charting a provocative and original direction, editors Bruce A. Arrigo and Christopher R. Williams couple theoretically oriented chapters with those centered on application and case study. In doing so, they develop an insightful, sensible, and accessible approach for a philosophical criminology in step with the political and economic challenges of the twenty-first century. Revealing the ways in which philosophical conceits inform prevailing conceptions of crime, Philosophy, Crime, and Criminology is required reading for any serious student or scholar concerned with crime and its impact on society and in our lives.

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Religion Conflict and Peacebuilding written by R. Scott Appleby and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2015 with total page 712 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides a comprehensive and interdisciplinary account of the scholarship on religion, conflict, and peacebuilding. Looking far beyond the traditional parameters of the field, the contributors engage deeply with the legacies of colonialism, missionary activism, secularism, orientalism, and liberalism as they relate to the discussion of religion, violence, and nonviolent transformation and resistance. Featuring numerous case studies from various contexts and traditions, the volume is organized thematically into five different parts. It begins with an up-to-date mapping of scholarship on religion and violence, and religion and peace. The second part explores the challenges related to developing secularist theories on peace and nationalism, broadening the discussion of violence to include an analysis of cultural and structural forms. In the third section, the chapters explore controversial topics such as religion and development, religious militancy, and the freedom of religion as a keystone of peacebuilding. The fourth part locates notions of peacebuilding in spiritual practice by focusing on constructive resources within various traditions, the transformative role of rituals, youth and interfaith activism in American university campuses, religion and solidarity activism, scriptural reasoning as a peacebuilding practice, and an extended reflection on the history and legacy of missionary peacebuilding. The volume concludes by looking to the future of peacebuilding scholarship and the possibilities for new growth and progress. Bringing together a diverse array of scholars, this innovative handbook grapples with the tension between theory and practice, cultural theory, and the legacy of the liberal peace paradigm, offering provocative, elastic, and context-specific insights for strategic peacebuilding processes.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This well-presented collection with contributions from academics and administrators reflects the growing concern towards the present-day practice of governance. It focuses on the need for Governance for Sustainable Human Development to manage the country's social as well as economic resources leading to better development-founded on four pillars of Accountability, Transparency, Predictability, and Participation. It thus calls for unfolding various issues and devising suitable strategies towards humane governance through appropriate political, bureaucratic, economic, and legal reforms. Highlighting its theme in the initial chapters in the New Public Management perspective, the book goes on to unravel the major administrative loopholes in Indian administration, such as lack of transparency and accountability, and the stranglehold of corruption, all of which lead to human deprivation. Later chapters give a synoptic overview of administrative reforms so far undertaken in India, and emphasize the effectiveness of governance in establishing appropriate balance in relative roles of public, private and civil society organizations, rights and responsibilities of politicians, bureaucrats and community, and economic and social justice. The book closes on a positive note strongly reiterating administrative re-engineering to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century for ensuring a holistic development of the country. Recent and real life happenings infused in the text to substantiate arguments, make it an interesting reading. The book will be of immense use to the students and teachers of public administration, social science, political science, and those who practise public administration. It will also be useful to a large number of government departments-both at the union and the state levels.

Download or read book Freedom in a Framework written by Arri Pauw and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The two archetypal questions of leadership are 'What' am I going to do? and 'How' will I get it done? The greatest challenge for a leader is not 'What' to do. Most leaders have enough experience and expertise to be able to differentiate their business. More difficult for leaders is the challenge of 'How' to get things done. Many leaders answer this question by defining budgets, reallocating resources, updating structures, and redefining business processes. But this is only part of the How question, the part under their direct control. Few leaders master the art of what I see as their biggest 'How' challenge: "How do I bring my people with me; how do I generate with all of them enough ownership and commitment to live the vision, implement the plans and realise the targets?" In this book 'Freedom in a Framework' Arri shares a perspective that is equally rich and pragmatic, based on more than 25 years experience of supporting leaders across the world in grappling with this question.
