Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The insights industry is in trouble. It's not growing, despite an explosion of information, decreasing costs and an increase in the need for informed decision making. And it still does not have real influence in the boardroom. It is too often focused on what happened, and not on where to go and what to do next. It focuses on methodology instead of decision making. And it is gathering its data from people it treats like chattel, which leads to results being unreliable if not downright wrong. This book takes a problem/solution approach; it is organized into chapters which shine an uncomfortable light on all too familiar practices before suggesting a better way forward. The book is fueled by interviews with insights professionals, marketers and strategists from around the world, including people from organizations like Coca-Cola, Discovery Channel, Estée Lauder, ESOMAR, Facebook, Intel, Pfizer, PwC, Sunovion, Telstra, Twitter, Virgin Australia, U.S. Bank, Visa, Warner Bros, and World Vision.

Download or read book Does Santa Exist written by Eric Kaplan and published by Hachette UK. This book was released on 2014-11-06 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metaphysics isn't ordinarily much of a laughing matter. But in the hands of acclaimed comedy writer and scholar Eric Kaplan, a search for the truth about old St. Nick becomes a deeply insightful, laugh-out-loud discussion of the way some things exist but may not really be there. Just like Santa and his reindeer. Even after we outgrow the jolly fellow, the essential paradox persists: There are some things we dearly believe in that are not universally acknowledged as real. In Does Santa Exist? Kaplan shows how philosophy giants Bertrand Russell and Ludwig Wittgenstein strove to smooth over this uncomfortable meeting of the real and unreal - and failed. From there he turns to mysticism's attempts to resolve such paradoxes, surveying Buddhism, Taoism, early Christianity, Theosophy and even the philosophers at UC Berkeley under whom he studied. Finally, this brilliant comic writer alights on - surprise! - comedy as the ultimate resolution of the fundamental paradoxes of life, using examples from The Big Bang Theory, Monty Python's cheese shop and many other pop-culture sources. Kaplan delves deeper into what all this means, from how our physical brains work to his own personal confrontations with life's biggest questions: If we're all going to die, what's the point of anything? What is a perfect moment? What can you say about God? Or Santa?

This book was released on 1997-10-31 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thomas Sheehan and Richard E. Palmer The materials translated in the body of this volume date from 1927 through 1931. The Encyclopaedia Britannica Article and the Amsterdam Lectures were written by Edmund Hussed (with a short contribution by Martin Heideg ger) between September 1927 and April 1928, and Hussed's marginal notes to Sein und Zeit and Kant und das Problem der Metaphysik were made between 1927 and 1929. The appendices to this volume contain texts from both Hussed and Heidegger, and date from 1929 through 1931. As a whole these materials not only document Hussed's thinking as he approached retirement and emeri tus status (March 31, 1928) but also shed light on the philosophical chasm that was widening at that time between Hussed and his then colleague and protege, Martin Heidegger. 1. The Encyclopaedia Britannica Article Between September and early December 1927, Hussed, under contract, composed an introduction to phenomenology that was to be published in the fourteenth edition ofthe Encyclopaedia Britannica (1929). Hussed's text went through four versions (which we call Drafts A, B, C, and D) and two editorial condensations by other hands (which we call Drafts E and F). Throughout this volume those five texts as a whole are referred to as "the EB Article" or simply "the Article. " Hussed's own final version of the Article, Draft D, was never published of it appeared only in 1962.

Download or read book Insights written by Norman Sorensen and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2013-07-27 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Norman Sorensen has now gathered a selection of genial anecdotes, lively retellings of Biblical verses, and deep spiritual insights. The book is drawn from one man's extraordinary life experiences, spanning the decades from before World War II to the present. Here is the wisdom of a man who has lived through a century of tumult and change, where the only consistency is the one that counts: the overwhelming reach of God's love.Without diminshing their spritual message, Sorensen brings color and life to Biblical stories with vibrantly imagined details. We experience the sight of white seagulls soaring over the Sea of Galilee, the thunder of horses in the Moab army, the tumbling clouds of dust as crowds gather near Jesus. Sorensen's retelling of stories like those of Saul, of Nicodemus, of David and Goliath are faithful to the Bible to the finest detail, but written in contemporary vernacular. It's as if the people in the Bible are speaking directly to us today -- which, Sorensen is reminding us -- they are.

Book excerpt: Income disparities in our wealthy nation are now wider than at any point since the Great Depression. The structure of today’s economy has stultified wage growth for half of America’s workers—with even worse results at the bottom and for people of color—while bestowing billions on those at the top. In this “accessible and inspiring analysis” (Angela Glover Blackwell), lifelong anti–poverty advocate Peter Edelman assesses how the United States can have such an outsized number of unemployed and working poor despite important policy gains. He delves into what is happening to the people behind the statistics and takes a particular look at young people of color for whom the possibility of productive lives is too often lost on the way to adulthood. In a timely new introduction, Edelman discusses the significance of Obama’s reelection—including the rediscovery of the word “poverty”—as well as the continuing attack on the poor from the right. “Engaging and informative” (William Julius Wilson), “powerful and eloquent” (Wade Henderson), “a national treasure composed by a wise man” (George McGovern), and “a great source for summaries of our country’s antipoverty program” (Publishers Weekly), So Rich, So Poor is crucial reading for anyone who wants to understand the most critical American dilemma of the twenty-first century.

This is an integrative approach to living in wellness of recovery. I vacated my own mind through deep personal process, my own form of meditation, and this book came about. My hope is this book unlocks the potential that advances new insight into the recovery process for each individual by reframing the process in such a way that the right interpretation by the reader will help recovery click into place. What we need to celebrate in recovery is the self-discovery of the individual. I offer my carefully considered overviews and assessments on the best-known treatments (theories) connected to recovery. I have provided a new outlook as a guide for the unwary who had failed at recovery in the past and those just coming into recovery for the first time. I count myself among the autodidacts, the self-taught perpetual student fueled by a passion for new answers and a sense of mission.

The title also explains how to manage this process, and how companies gain insight into their customers by managing and using their customer data correctly.

Download or read book Crisis and Change Today written by Peter Knapp and published by Rowman & Littlefield Publishers. This book was released on 2011-01-16 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Crisis and Change Today provides a solid introduction to Marxist social theory. The work's unique voice is expressed in its Socratic-dialogic approach, structured around forty questions that students have about society and social change. Topics range from theories of history, economics, unemployment, racial oppression, the state, fascism, the collapse of the Soviet bloc, and points of convergence and difference between the dialectical approach and other approaches to social science. The content and tone of the work invites students to evaluate various traditional and current explanations of social institutions and social processes and encourages them to weigh the debates and investigate further. The first edition was very well received (Distinguished Scholarship Award of the Section on Marxist Sociology of the ASA), and the second edition has been thoroughly revised and updated to be relevant for students today. Though the first edition was written during the wake of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Soviet Union, the growing gap between the rich and the poor and the economic crisis have generated more interest in using Marxist analysis both as a tool to analyze and understand capitalism and the weaknesses of past Marxist praxis.
