Download or read book The Journey from I to we Companion Workbook written by Glenn Cohen and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2008-05-01 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This workbook is a supplement to the book, "The Journey from "I-TO-WE"." It encompasses the 23-step, comprehensive "Create an Emotionally Intelligent Relationship" program developed to help individuals and couples achieve relationship success at home, at work and within themselves. I highly recommend that both you and your partner have your own personal copy of the workbook. I also advise reading each corresponding chapter in the book twice before you begin the workbook exercises. The book offers in-depth conceptual descriptions of the ideas and principles behind the "Create an Emotionally Intelligent Relationship" program along with vignettes that detail a story of a fictional couple composed from people I have coached over the years. The combined elements convey each concept, skill and technique. A comprehensive program is contained within the book and workbook. The exercises will challenge you to face your fears and stretch beyond your comfort zone. You will examine many aspects of yourself, your partner, and your relationship in a way you have never done before. You will be asked to be vulnerable, empathetic, courageous, and honest, and to accept absolute personal responsibility for your words, actions, and behaviors. Working together and valuing this program is critical. You cannot succeed if you agree to participate in this journey without wholeheartedly being committed. If you take shortcuts or hold back, you will cheat your partner, your relationship and yourself. The more you put in, the more you will gain. Aim to give 101% of yourself and enjoy the full benefit of the program. Remember, it takes two to "Create an Emotionally Intelligent Relationship."

Book excerpt: Accompanying the Journey is a practical handbook designed to help sponsors in United Methodist congregations (and congregations in other denominations) develop a "hands on" approach to guiding individuals who seek initiation into the Christian faith through baptism. Using the metaphor of "presentation," the book outlines crucial ways in which sponsors embody the congregation's welcome--both in and outside worship services--as they accompany adult initiates to the waters of baptism. The book also provides extensive guidance for sponsoring children for baptism and for sponsoring adults returning to the baptismal covenant. This book provides a helpful overview of the process of Christian initiation, outlines in detail the responsibilities of sponsors in the worship services connected with the initiation process, helps sponsors understand their relationships with the congregation and with others who lead the work of making disciples, provides church leaders with guidelines for selecting, forming, and nurturing sponsors, including a discussion of the place of discernment in the process, presents a brief overview of the role and historical context of sponsors in the Christian tradition and in Methodism, includes an appendix containing "An Order for Commissioning Sponsors"

Download or read book Catholic Activism Today written by Maureen K. Day and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2020-06-09 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Uncovers why Catholic organizations fail to foster civic activism The American Catholic Church boasts a long history of teaching and activism on issues of social justice. In the face of declining religious and community involvement in the twenty-first century, many modern-day Catholic groups aspire to revive the faith as well as their connections to the larger world. Yet while thousands attend weekly meetings designed to instill religiosity and a commitment to civic engagement, these programs often fail to achieve their more large-scale goals. In Catholic Activism Today, Maureen K. Day sheds light on the impediments to successfully enacting social change. She argues that popular organizations such as JustFaith Ministries have embraced an approach to civic engagement that focuses on mobilizing Catholics as individuals rather than as collectives. There is reason to think this approach is effective—these organizations experience robust participation in their programs and garner reports of having had a transformative effect on their participants’ lives. Yet, Day shows that this approach encourages participants to make personal lifestyle changes rather than contend with structural social inequalities, thus failing to make real inroads in the pursuit of social justice. Moreover, the focus on the individual serves to undermine the institutional authority of the Catholic Church itself, shifting American Catholics’ perceptions of the Church from a hierarchy that controls the laity to one that simply influences it as they pursue their individual paths. Drawing on three years of interview, survey, and participant observation data, Catholic Activism Today offers a compelling new take on contemporary dynamics of Catholic civic engagement and its potential effect on the Church at large.

A mammogram confirmed a mass; the biopsy confirmed it was cancer. I was diagnosed with stage 3, breast cancer February 22nd, 2013. That was the beginning. I started this series of mandalas to help me get through the Journey on which I was embarking. What has helped me the most has been using art to process my feelings, creating a new mandala each day to move healthy healing energy into my body and process out the negative energy. I knew from the beginning, art was and is essential for my healing. Creating the mandalas and doing the writings On the Journey has supported me emotionally through this difficult time. Doing art, on a nearly daily basis, has kept me focused on the Now. Sharing the Journey has helped me. I have learned I am not alone. On January 2, 2014, I was upgraded to stage 4, breast cancer. The Journey continues with the loving support from my community, a sisterhood of survivors and thrivers, friends and loved ones. Hundreds of people have sent me angels, their prayers, their love and support. We all need to know we belong, that we are part of this glorious species: human kind.
