Book excerpt: Whatever your beliefs are, this book will give you something important to think about: what happens after death? This book volume reveals what everyone living today needs to know about life after death. It lays out indisputable evidence the brain does not create your consciousness, and that when your body dies, your consciousness will be released into a mental realm. It explains what you can expect to experience during the first minutes until you come to a border near death survivors agree is a point of no return. This book will lead you past that border to explore that Shakespeare called, "The undiscovered country," a mental realm each individual creates for him or herself. It also makes suggestions about actions to take now to insure the best possible outcome after death.

Download or read book The Myth of an Afterlife written by Michael Martin and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2015-03-12 with total page 708 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because every single one of us will die, most of us would like to know what—if anything—awaits us afterward, not to mention the fate of lost loved ones. Given the nearly universal vested interest in deciding this question in favor of an afterlife, it is no surprise that the vast majority of books on the topic affirm the reality of life after death without a backward glance. But the evidence of our senses and the ever-gaining strength of scientific evidence strongly suggest otherwise. In The Myth of an Afterlife: The Case against Life after Death, Michael Martin and Keith Augustine collect a series of contributions that redress this imbalance in the literature by providing a strong, comprehensive, and up-to-date casebook of the chief arguments against an afterlife. Divided into four separate sections, this collection opens with a broad overview of the issues, as contributors consider the strongest evidence of whether or not we survive death—in particular the biological basis of all mental states and their grounding in brain activity that ceases to function at death. Next, contributors consider a host of conceptual and empirical difficulties that confront the various ways of “surviving” death—from bodiless minds to bodily resurrection to any form of posthumous survival. Then essayists turn to internal inconsistencies between traditional theological conceptions of an afterlife—heaven, hell, karmic rebirth—and widely held ethical principles central to the belief systems supporting those notions. In the final section, authors offer critical evaluations of the main types of evidence for an afterlife. Fully interdisciplinary, The Myth of an Afterlife: The Case against Life after Death brings together a variety of fields of research to make that case, including cognitive neuroscience, philosophy of mind, personal identity, philosophy of religion, moral philosophy, psychical research, and anomalistic psychology. As the definitive casebook of arguments against life after death, this collection is required reading for any instructor, researcher, and student of philosophy, religious studies, or theology. It is sure to raise provocative issues new to readers, regardless of background, from those who believe fervently in the reality of an afterlife to those who do not or are undecided on the matter.

The fifth book in the series titled "Believing in the Afterlife" tries to teach our children about the life after death and help them understand how important it is to believe in the afterlife. Akif goes to visit his grandmother's grave with his grandfather. He learns from his grandfather that death is not the end and that they are going to come back to life and live again after they die. He asks his grandfather everything he wants to know about the qiyamah and the day of judgement. He learns important things about Jannah, which is where Muslims will gather in the end, and Jahannam, which is where the unbelievers will be sent.

Download or read book Death and the Afterlife in the New Testament written by Jaime Clark-Soles and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2006-11-15 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clark-Soles began this project in order to answer the question, "What exactly does the New Testament say about death and afterlife?" It turns out that it says both more and less than one might hope or expect. By more, she means that every time the subject of death and what happens after death arises, it is clear that the authors' interests far exceed answering that single question. Their comments emerge from the concerns and experiences of living Christian communities, they relate to a larger theological and pastoral agenda, and their primary focus remains life on earth and the proper living of it. The texts say less than one may hope because no author sets out to answer my question directly. There is no systematic theology in the New Testament regarding death and aftelife. Certainly resurrection appears throughout, though differently emphasized and interpreted. Beyond that, the fascinating aspects of the question are in the details of the texts. Therefore, the appropriate question, as it turns out, is not: What does the New Testament say about death and afterlife, but what do various New Testament texts say about it? Others have sought to unify the New Testament witness, glossing over the individual pictures presented by the New Testament authors. Clark-Soles revels in the snapshots of the individuals and am less interested in the family photo. Clark-Soles inquires into the specific language that each author uses regarding death and afterlife. She explores anthropology, cosmology, eschatology, and, where relevant, theology and Christology. Finally, Clark-Soles suggests ways that the stated views function in each situation.

It answers concerns such as: What is the cultic view of death: soul-sleep annihilation or conditional immortality? Is modern death research unbiased? Are all near-death episodes the positive experiences researchers would have us believe? Why do near-death experiences frequently represent initiation into the world of the occult? Is there any evidence for reincarnation? This book exposes the errors in the cultic/occult view of death & helps readers separate "the facts" from fiction.

Download or read book Life After Death written by Dinesh D'Souza and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2009-11-02 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unlike many books about the afterlife, Life after Death makes no appeal to religious faith, divine revelation, or sacred texts. Drawing on some of the most powerful theories and trends in physics, evolutionary biology, science, philosophy, and psychology, D'Souza shows why the atheist critique of immortality is irrational. It is not only reasonable to believe in life after death; it is also beneficial. Such a belief gives depth and significance to this life, a path to happiness, and reason for hope.
