Download or read book The Making of an Enterprise written by Dauril Alden and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 768 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on more than two decades of research conducted on five continents, this monumental work focuses on the activities of members of the Society of Jesus from its foundation to the eve of its expulsion from the Portuguese world. A second volume will examine the Order’s expulsion, the fate of its members, and the disposition of its assets in Portugal and her empire from 1750 to 1808. The present volume begins with the Society’s introduction to Portugal and traces its expansion throughout what the Society defined as the Portuguese Assistancy, a vast complex of administrative units that included the kingdom of Portugal and her empire plus portions of the Indian subcontinent, Japan, China, the Indonesian archipelago, and Ethiopia. Though it fully describes the evangelical and educational activities of the Jesuits, the book emphasizes their political relations with Portuguese and indigenous leaders, the founding of their major training facilities, the development of their economic infrastructure, their activities as governmental administrators for the Portuguese in India and China, and their role in Portugal’s unsuccessful attempts to preserve her eastern empire and to revive Brazil after the Dutch occupation (1630-1654). Throughout, the author makes insightful comparisons between the Jesuits and their peers in various parts of the Portuguese Assistancy and between the Jesuits and their monastic predecessors in various parts of Europe, notably France and England.

Download or read book Enterprise and Culture written by Colin Gray and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-01-08 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enterprise and Culture is a uniquely wide-ranging, insightful and well-informed critical evaluation of the economic and social project of creating an enterprise culture. Colin Gray argues that the failure of small enterprise policy is not just a question of economics, but is also caused by psychological and cultural factors. The book demonstrates that the individualism at the centre of enterprise culture policies is, itself, the main impediment to the successful growth and development of small enterprises.

Download or read book Sustainable Enterprise written by Mark Peterson and published by SAGE Publications. This book was released on 2012-10-08 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is appropriate for the following courses: Sustainable Enterprise Sustainable Business Practices Sustainability Marketing Society Social Marketing Sustainable Enterprise: A Macromarketing Approach goes beyond the internal firm strategies of micromarketing and the "four Ps" to take a broader perspective focused on the interconnectedness of markets, marketing, and society. In a globalized society concerned with social and environmental sustainability, this book encourages students to think critically about the opportunities and limitations of marketing, as well as its positive and potentially negative effects. Through the presentation of key research findings and actual company cases, Peterson engages students with questions such as: How do firms use sustainability concepts to navigate their firms in global business today? Why do markets change? How can firms conduct business profitably with the environment in mind? How can firms conduct business profitably with poor consumers in mind? Based on the premise that firms using holistic marketing strategies are better able to assess risks and identify opportunities, this text explains how firms can approach the marketplace to benefit the company, key stakeholders, and society at large. The result is a one-of-a-kind book that successfully explores macromarketing for sustainable enterprise.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agenda for Sustaining Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises is the tenth volume of articles compiled into a book. The book represents another attempt made to address issues of importance to the management and development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). More specifically, this particular volume focuses on the sustainability of SMEs. Just as in the earlier ninth volumes, the eight articles introduced in this tenth volume are earlier papers presented at several international conferences which were held locally and abroad. Interestingly, each of the eight articles in the book attempts to deal with a specific issue that is relevant and related to the sustainability of SMEs. Taken together, the book not only helps readers to better understand SMEs but also explains the different issues involved in sustaining a small business. More meaningfully, the articles in the book seek to provide students, owners and managers of SMEs and policy makers useful insights into the scope and complexity of sustaining the business activities of SMEs
